EcoFINDERS database
The European Soil Data Centre (ESDAC) is the thematic centre for soil related data in Europe. Its ambition is to be the single reference point for and to host all relevant soil data and information at European level. It is the source for various authoritative European soil-related datasets.
In order to fill the current lack of soil biodiversity database at European scale, the JRC proposed to create a database, to be made publicly available in the coming months, based on outputs form the FP7 project Ecological Function and Biodiversity Indicators in European Soils (EcoFINDERS).
- A preliminary soil biodiversity database was created in Excel to act as a single point of storage for the EcoFINDERS datasets. This overview provides a description of the database.
- The database was developed to incorporate a large degree of flexibility to allow the addition of data from various methods or analyses as and when the data became available.
- Originally starting with a small number of TRFLP datasets from the Long Term Observatories (LTOs) samples, the database was extended to include other molecular data and fauna data from the LTO samples, samples from a European wide transect, and other LTO sites sampled for soil biodiversity indicators (known as the indicator LTOs). The report contains different sections for each experimental type, which detail out the structure and definitions of the tables and data
